Supporting community projects

Turning Point Women’s Centre exists to inspire women and their families to change their lives and communities for the better. Their mission is to enable women, girls and their families to overcome disadvantage, inequality and poverty.

Baroness Corston was commissioned by the government to review how vulnerable women were dealt with by the Criminal Justice System. Following on from this report, Turning Point developed the ‘Just Women Project’ - a one stop shop to address the needs of vulnerable women who had been involved in offending behaviour and were trying to change this.  Services include counselling, learning opportunities, relationship advice, parenting support and financial health checks. Providing these services in one place allowed Support Workers to address women’s complex needs effectively and to provide additional support where needed.

One of the barriers preventing the most deprived women accessing these services was transport and child care costs. Turning Point Women’s Centre made an application to the R. Daphne Plunket Charitable Trust to cover these costs for a 6 month period.

The R. Daphne Plunket Charitable Trust helped with a grant of £1,000 to ensure the most vulnerable women in the community are now able to access the ‘Just Women Project’.
